• Education and Libraries Community Service Programs are designed to foster schools as well as other educational institutions and opportunities.  Programs promote libraries, literacy, and the love of a good book.  Through these efforts, we encourage the growth of individuals and communities at home and around the world.

Pewaukee School District offers volunteer opportunities to GFWC WCP members who wish to support education by volunteering to work with students in reading, math* and other elementary school areas. Volunteer for 1-3 hours on a weekly basis or offer to help at a one-time event—whatever fits your schedule and interest. Programs run October through mid-May. It is a very rewarding opportunity to have one-on-one time with our elementary children.

EXPERT LISTENERS:  Listen to students read aloud, help with difficult vocabulary words and discuss the story to confirm comprehension. Volunteers are trained by Reading Intervention Coaches and given a building orientation before starting in October. Volunteers are located in the Library at Pewaukee Lake Elementary (5K-3rd) and in the Horizon classrooms (4-6th) for 1-3 hours a week.

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS:  Log library books in and out for children, return books to their appropriate shelf, and general organization.

For the safety of our students and faculty, all volunteers must submit a Volunteer Application. It takes 5 minutes to complete and lasts for three years. Thank you for your consideration.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer in any capacity, please contact Christine Baar, Volunteer coordinator at 262-701-5513 or baarchr@pewaukeeschools.org.  Or for more information, please contact our members Ginny Lockman or Jeanie Matkin.
