Dear Woman’s Club of Pewaukee Members,

Autumn is in the air! Excitement abounds! It’s a time of chilly nights, crisp mornings, caramel apples and colorful leaves! Among my fall favorites are fresh garden produce like butternut squash, crunchy green beans and brilliant pumpkins, not to forget the beautiful blooming chrysanthemums.

Best of all, it’s time for the Woman’s Club of Pewaukee to start our monthly meetings….rekindling friendships, meeting new members and reflecting on memories of the summer.

Please join us on Thursday, October 4, at the Butler Inn in Pewaukee for our Membership Meeting and a presentation about Breast Cancer Awareness. I encourage everyone to wear PINK at our first meeting. Pink is not just a color. The pink ribbon is the symbol of strength, hope, faith and courage for the women who are survivors of breast cancer. Our guest speakers are Dr. Manfred Chiang, M.D., a General and Vascular Surgeon at Brookfield Surgical Associates, S.C. and Anne Hanson, RN, an Oncology Patient Navigator from Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Elmbrook Memorial. I hope you can join us for this educational and enlightening program in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. More info can be found below!

Please note new meeting times to accommodate those women who need to get back to work after their lunch hour.

Arrival time is 11:15-11:45 a.m. Our meeting will begin promptly at 11:45 a.m. with our Collect and Pledge of Allegience. Lunch will be served between 12:00 noon and 12:15 p.m. Raffle winners will be called at 12:30 p.m. Working women will have the opportunity to excuse themselves at 12:45 p.m. Our guest speaker will begin immediately following, ending around 1:15 p.m. Social time after our meeting is unlimited! Feel free to stay as long as you wish!

Remember, if you cannot attend a monthly Membership Meeting, be sure to call Ella at 691-4211 to let her know so you are not charged $15.00 for lunch. RSVP’s are due by Sunday.

Please remember the Pewaukee Food Pantry! This month items needed are paper goods including paper towels, Kleenex, napkins and toilet paper. Thank you in advance for remembering those in need. Bring an item to our meeting and your name will be put in a basket to win a mystery prize!

My butterfly fact for the month is about the “King of Butterflies”, the Monarch. While these magnificent butterflies born in the spring and summer die 2-6 weeks after they are born, there is one generation of Monarch butterflies that migrate in huge swarms to warm climates like Mexico and California. These beauties are born in September and October and live for 6-8 months until it is time to start the whole process over again! Check out this amazing photo of Monarchs migrating!

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our October meeting. Remember to wear PINK!

    Sincerely,

    Abby Lorenz

    Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and that means we want to send a loud, clear message to men and women alike to remind their mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and any women they love how important it is for them to be screened for breast cancer. According to the health department, breast cancer screening can be quick and easy with a few simple procedures: a clinical breast exam, self exams and a mammogram. Early detection, treatment, research and support from family and friends make a huge difference. In 2011 there were more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Gone are the days when we used to say, “That will never happen to me.” Now almost everyone knows someone who has fought breast cancer. In honor of those who lost the battle, and to celebrate the millions of survivors, please wear pink to our October meeting.
