Greetings!
I hope this finds you all enjoying your Wisconsin summer! I am honored to have been elected as your new President of the Woman’s Club of Pewaukee. For my installation in May I was asked to prepare my own theme and symbol. My theme is “Imagine. Believe. Achieve.”
Imagine… the possibilities when you shoot for the stars.
Believe… you can accomplish all your heart’s desires.
Achieve… the bright future waiting for you just over the horizon. Anything is possible when you believe!
My symbol is the butterfly. Special thanks to Jan Allen for the beautiful “Butterfly Installation” message she prepared for our Board last month at the Country Springs Hotel luncheon. I still have my miniature crown that I will cherish forever!
Quick Monarch Butterfly Fact:
Did you know some groups of Monarchs migrate for over 2,000 miles during August-October? They fly from Canada and the United States to southern California to the transvolcanic mountains of central Mexico! Canadian scientist Dr. Fred A. Urquhart discovered this fact in 1975. Other Monarchs stay in one area their entire lives. The male Monarch butterfly is identified by the two highly visable black spots on the hind wings as well as thinner black webbing within the wings. Is the Monarch pictured above a male or female?
Although the Woman’s Club of Pewaukee does not hold membership meetings during the summer months, we are still active in our community! Please see below regarding the Pewaukee Chamber’s 4th of July Parade and Positively Pewaukee’s Waterfront Wednesday when our organization will be featured. I hope to see you at these two events this summer!
Your Board of Directors have been busy preparing for the next year. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering to serve on a committee! Details below in how you can get involved.
Have you considered asking a friend to join our Woman’s Club? All are welcome! Please read about our New Member Tea scheduled this fall.
We will resume membership meetings on October 4th with our luncheon at the Butler Inn at 11:30 a.m. I’m looking forward to a great year ahead!
Enjoy your summer, ladies!
Sincerely,
Abby Lorenz

And Special Committees including:
Auditing, Ways and Means, Publicity, Sunshine, Historian, Book Club, Parliamentarian, Yearbook and Membership.
We have openings in almost all of the committees! Please hit reply now to let me know in what capacity you’d like to serve. WE NEED YOU! Thank you for becoming a volunteer on the committee you would enjoy the most. We all have gifts to share. What is yours?
Independence Day Parade
Please plan to walk in the Pewaukee Chamber of Commerce’s 4th of July Parade alongside Nancy Niedziela’s red convertable! We need members to hand out candy to parade goers with a WCP note attached with ribbon. Ella Dzioba, Nancy Koepp and Bev Coshun are all invited to ride in the convertible where we plan to have patriotic music playing. We are early in the line up! (car #2 due to our being Non-Profit of the Year!) Lineup begins at 3pm at the Pewaukee School District Parking Lot (405 Lake St). The route is approximately 1 mile long ending at Village Park. The parade begins at 4pm. Please wear red! Bring your smiles and favorite walking shoes! All WCP members welcome…the more, the merrier! We’ll have a great time waving the Old Glory!
Waterfront Wednesday
Do you love a good band? Then you’ll really enjoy attending Positively Pewaukee’s Waterfront Wednesday on August 22 where WCP will be the featured non-profit organization while the band “Stoneship Eden” (70’s music) performs from 6-9pm. A table will be made available for our group to provide brochures and information about our club, plus we can do something fun for the kids! How about an easy “arts & crafts” project? One idea is to make flowers out of tissue paper, or butterflies out of coffee filters! Please contact AbbyLorenz@wi.rr.com with your ideas.
New Member Tea
Please start thinking of women you would like to have join the WCP by encouraging them to attend the New Member Tea. The date has been set for Tuesday, September 18, at 11:30 a.m. at the Clark House Museum in the Exhibit Building. We plan to enjoy tea or coffee while providing the rich history of our chapter and how our organization is a part of GFWC locally, state wide, nationally and internationally. A light lunch will be also be served. All are welcome!
Book Club Meets in July
The Book Club continues to meet the second Thursday every other month, with the next meeting on July 12. The book for July is called “Cutting for Stone” by Abraham Verghese. Meet at the Five O’Clock Club at 11:30 am. Anyone who has books to suggest for next year, please bring your ideas to the July 12 meeting, or email Nancy at rniedziela@wi.rr.com with your submissions if you cannot attend. Next year’s book title schedule will be handed out at the October meeting. Happy Reading this summer!
Thank You Letter from Tom Koepp
Please see below for the kind thank you letter we received from the Lake Pewaukee Sanitary District for our donation…
Dear Abby and to all Women’s Club Members,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Lake Pewaukee Sanitary District to thank you for your generous contribution to the LPSD Wetlands Conservancy Fund. We received your donation in the amount of $1,400 and greatly appreciate your help and commitment to preserve and protect this invaluable resource surrounding Pewaukee Lake.
The purchase of these wetlands, the restoration work and the placement of these properties in permanent conservancy allows them to play a prominent role in the water quality of Pewaukee Lake long into the future. Their value for wildlife habitat, ground water recharging, storm water management, recreational and educational use is priceless for the many years to come.
In 2011 the District purchased the 32 acres and added them to our previously purchased property and our total is now 290 acres+. All of these purchases were accomplished with funds from the District and private donations.
All the donations to The Wetlands Conservancy Fund are used exclusively for the purchase or restoration of wetland properties. No administration costs will be taken from this fund.
As restoration gets further underway, we will set up another tour of the property for your group. I hope to have a better trails established and some more buckthorn removed so you can get an even better look at the steps being taken to restore the wetlands, the prairies and the oak savannah on this beautiful piece of property.
Once again thank you for your donation and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our office.
Sincerely,
Thomas H. Koepp, P.E. LEED AP
